THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. COSTUME & PROP INFORMATION *** Your child will be given a paper copy of this letter ***
With a little over two months until our show, it is time to start piecing together costumes and props. The cast and stage crew have spent the last month brainstorming, sketching, and beginning to build what we are going to need to bring our colorful show to life. In the past, the majority of costumes have been made at home and sets and props made out of cardboard. This year’s production is a little bit different. The majority of the kids will be three different characters- a sailor; a chef, seagull, or poor unfortunate soul; and a sea creature. These costumes need to have specific pieces in order to bring a uniformity. As for the sets and props- many are going to be made using fabric and other unique materials, like pool noodles. Because of these two factors, we are asking for a donation from each family of $25 to help cover the cost of the materials for the costumes and props. Donations should be sent to school in a clearly labeled envelope addressed to Mrs. Fisher. Cash or checks made out to “Memorial Activity Fund”. Thank you!
Attached is a description sheet for each of your child’s characters. You will notice that some of the outfits need to be sewn and pieced together. If you are able to assist our stage crew kids with this, please let me know- we love volunteers!
For those items that need to be added to (ie. white shirts), we ask that you label each of these pieces on the inside with a black sharpie and bring them into school in a sealed, well labeled bag by Thursday, April 2nd. Your child should bring this bag to Mrs. Fisher at a rehearsal or can drop it off during the school day in Room 12 across from the office.
In addition, we are looking for any donations of the following that you may have: Any color pool noodles Large sheets of cardboard (appliance size) Light colored bedding- either Q or K flat sheets or K fitted sheets- for our backdrop A smoking pipe (for Scuttle) Large yogurt cups (for holding paint)
I am also currently working on the costumes and props for the shows at Strong and Coginchaug. We are working on building our ‘theater library’ and are looking for donations that can be used throughout the district. As you clean out your closets, garages, and attics, please check our website, www.d13drama.weebly.com and look at our Supplies Needed! list. Ie. for Coginchaug’s show Guys & Dolls, we are looking for suits, dresses, hats, etc. in the style of the 1930’s - 1950’s. Thank you!
